1st Snow of 2022

Yesterday Greensboro, North Carolina, got its first taste of snow for this year. It was so pretty coming down. That is unless you were one of the unfortunate souls that had trees come down in power go out. The winds were excessive, and the snow came down in droves. But if you didn’t have to drive out in it and could watch it from a window, it was a beautiful sight to behold. Maybe that’s why I enjoy it when the snow does hit for the first of the season.

It’s ironic, though, because since this is the start of the New Year, it’s nice to have a snowfall come to where everything looks so clean and crisp. The snow reminds me of the innocence in the world because it appears pure. It’s almost like mother nature took a paintbrush and painted a canvas of serene peace and beauty all at one time. One of my favorite moments in time is when you try to catch the snowflakes with your tongue and act as a bit of a kid because even though no two snowflakes are alike, we still enjoy the unique beauty they provide.

When I got to work this morning, I made a point to check my lot before the snow got more intense on the ground. I should have worn a pair of galoshes, but I didn’t. Then after I did my lot check, I came back to the office, and I just watched the snow come down. I had a few moments to think about the things in my life that I needed to prioritize.

When I went to the bank for the office, the snow was about a half of an inch. That made for treacherous driving in certain conditions. My office sits in a valley. You have to go up a very steep hill to get out of the parking lot. Getting up that hill was a little challenging. I managed to get about halfway to the bank before the car tried to skid onto an embankment. I was able to keep the car on the road, but it taught me that the streets could be incredibly slick when you think that it’s just a bit of wetness. Paying attention is crucial when driving to ensure that you can prevent an accident before it starts.

So I’m going to leave you with a thought for the day. When it snows, please don’t take it for granted. Reflect on the peaceful and tranquil things, just like the snow. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why 2022 is starting with a different view. The day year is not only telling us that it’s a New Year, but it’s also telling us to take priority of our lives. Have a great day, everyone.

  1. I love the occasional snow fall that we get here in Georgia. It’s always such a novel and pretty experience for us – even though it’s usually just a one to two inch dusting. We were doing quite fine in the 70’s until the bottom fell out yesterday and plunged us back to the reality of winter weather – this morning we were at 28 degrees. Everything was frozen. No snow though – we will definitely have a full shutdown with the sighting of a single flurry. Happy New year!

      1. The weather men said we’re not getting any snow in the metro areas, just the mountain/higher elevated areas. But yesterday was rough, I literally had to break into my car – all four doors were frozen shut and covered in ice. But you never know, we might get snow judging from the horrible weather everywhere else.
