Dusk Til Dawn

I used to love being outside at dusk. It’s only been the last few years that I’m not fond of it as much because the mosquitoes love to find me. For some reason, I attract gnats and mosquitos without trying. I don’t wear perfume or cologne when I walk because it’s a magnet for those animals, and I don’t particularly like the idea of attracting bugs. But the thing about dusk is as the day unwinds, there is a magic and mystery that is difficult to explain. I love walking at the park just before sunset because I get to see the sun setting over the horizon and find myself listening to nature. It’s easy to get lost in our thoughts. I think that’s one of the reasons why I feel the nighttime beckoning me.

If you like reading mystery novels that have a lot of paranormal activity in them, then you might automatically think of the mist at dusk. It always raises my goosebumps at the thought of someone walking in the fog at sunset and not knowing that danger is lurking around the corner. The vampire stories are well known for using this type of scene because of the intrigue it creates. I think it’s because as dusk enters the picture, the night can cloak its mysteries for the evening, and people rely on their senses for incredible sensations.

The dusk also invites the creatures of the night to make their appearance. As the evening becomes the night, you can hear the cicadas and coyotes through their high creeks and howls. Footsteps in the night often frighten people because sometimes even an animal makes noises in the woods, and if you are outside in nature, you are bound to hear animals scurrying throughout the night. Some sleep at night while others roam. The animal world is fascinating because it truly is the survival of the fittest.

The night holds its secrets well. I used to find money at night because I worked the graveyard shift, and my eyes became accustomed to the night. It was a different world because there was something about the nightlife that was refreshing and mysterious. There is a rush that people find at night. I think that’s why so many people enjoy the nightlife. Street vendors at night often do well with those seeking possessions. It’s amazing how the night can make something look so attractive, and in the daytime, it seems to lose some of its lusters.

When dawn approaches, we all get a sense of newness because the sun begins to shine in places that speak of a promise. I’m not too fond of the sunrise because the rays are often so bright when driving that they can be blinding. But the cool thing about it is that those same rays provide light to different areas that don’t always get attention. It’s a lot like our lives. We are all finding our dusk to dawn moments but finding that each dawn gives way to new opportunities as the mornings’ approach.

So as you enjoy the various days of dusk to dawn, remember as the seasons change, so do the sights, sounds, and smells we encounter. Take in each moment and relish the experiences. Have a great day, everyone.

  1. You’re not alone, I’m a mosquito magnet as well. I would be standing with ten people and mosquitoes leave everyone else and find me to latch on too! It is said that nothing good happens at night – well, except for you being able to find money and of course the hope of a new day. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
