The Storm

As I’m writing this, there’s a big storm brewing outside the house. The forecasters are calling for one of the worst rainstorms we’ve had in a while. They’re talking about heavy gusts of wind and all kinds of downpours of rain with potential flooding and other issues. I couldn’t help but think about how many storms all of us deal with in our everyday lives.

Right now, one of my closest friends is dealing with the fact her son has become incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit. She is facing her storm because this was her worst nightmare come true. It doesn’t matter that the girl who is causing all of the drama is a proven liar. Nor does it matter that all parties other than the judge did not think prison was necessary. In the end, what everyone else thought didn’t matter. The judge handed a verdict to imprison him. Once again, the system proves it is screwy.

Sometimes those storms are literal and other times; they are a force of nature. But in the end, we all go through different types of storms. Some of those storms are by people who love to create drama and chaos. Other storms are natural disasters, and we have minimal ways to prevent them. I don’t know of any who can wave their hands and make the sky do whatever they want it to do.

As a kid, I loved going out in the storms and having the wind howl against my body. I felt alive when the storms would rage, and I could feel the wind whipping through my hair with a sense of freedom. For brief moments, it felt like nature, and I was one. It was as I got older that I saw just how catastrophic some of those storms could be. When you witness the damage that a tornado or hurricane can do, it changes your perspective.

Many of us are dealing with the storms from the economy. We’re all finding our place with different elements. We’re all navigating uncharted territory. But if there’s one true thing, no matter where we are in our lives, some storms will be easier to ride out than others.

So as you face the day, I hope you can ride out whatever storm may come your way. Don’t be afraid of the changes in the atmosphere. And enjoy the times where you can feel the wind whip through your hair as long as it’s not so dangerous you can’t enjoy it. Have a great day, everyone.

  1. Why can’t we have a blessing storm for a change?! Don’t we have enough to worry about already? It seems like these catastrophes will not let up and give us a break. But God is good and merciful, the sun will come out…eventually. Stay safe.

  2. I’m with you on this. I think we’re all due for a blessing storm. You are so right that God is good and merciful. I know the sun will come out but some days it feels as if the rain won’t let up. Stay safe and have an incredible day! 🙂
