When someone tells you to invest in yourself, what do you think they mean? If you’re like most people, the 1st thing that comes to mind is 1 of 2 items. It’s either investing in yourself financially or academically. We don’t usually think that there are other ways to invest in ourselves. But in truth, there are multiple ways that we can do this.
If you’re the type to enjoy the outdoors, you might want to go on spiritual walks. Maybe you enjoy rock climbing or hiking. Perhaps you like getting together with your friends and doing fun activities outdoors. Whether it’s horseback riding, volleyball, tennis running, bike riding, or any other training that doesn’t require much interaction with others can be therapeutic. Most people know that 1 of my favorite things to do is go for a long walk. I like this time because it allows me to think out loud without everyone listening to my conversation to myself. Although, I sometimes talk to myself only because it helps me process things out loud, but that doesn’t mean that I’m losing all of my marbles. It just means that that’s the way my brain functions.
So, as I was thinking about this topic, it made me wonder what are some of the best ways to invest in yourself and help change your life for the better? As I research some of the options, here are some of the things I found.
Read books and blogs. Some of you are avid readers, and some of you can’t stand to read. That’s OK. There are audiobooks out there for you. There are also Podcasts that you can listen to and learn. Those are the types of things to find out other people’s opinions and get elevated mentally.
Become the boss of your own money. I love this concept. The reason is that when you are in charge of your money, then no one else can screw you out of it until you allow it. This item also takes time, dedication, and research to make wise decisions financially.
Invest in your future. This item might mean support financially or invest in time. For example, let’s say you’re working with some kids. When you sacrifice some of your time, you are investing in them. The same is true for when you invest in yourself and do things to make your future more worthwhile.
Never stop learning. Every single day we are alive, we know something new if we allow ourselves to do this. You may learn something new from talking to others. You might pick up a new skill. You might even learn a thing or two by just listening.
Give yourself a break. All work and no play make us all make more mistakes. The key is to learn the balance that we need to keep from making those mistakes repeatedly. Mental health is just as important as physical health. The two must work together.
Find a business coach. The reason is that sometimes business coaches can give us better information on how to achieve the status we wish to acquire. If you can’t afford to hire a business coach, go to YouTube. That channel has just about everything. I’ve yet to find a topic that I couldn’t get a video on YouTube for, and it’s helped.
Insure yourself. Financial planners will tell you to make sure that you can save for a rainy day. There’s a lot of truth in that statement. Some of them will ask you to make a little bit extra money, but most of them who are worth their time and money are trying to help you keep from falling behind later in life. Not everyone is out to screw you over, but you have to do your homework. Go to people with reputable backgrounds. Research everything And ask questions. Don’t assume those with supposed credentials know what they’re doing. Please make sure they are legit. Investing in yourself does not mean that you have to invest tons at one time. It’s good to be diverse in your investments.
I talked to a friend of mine earlier, and she spoke of how her son made her feel like a worthless ant. It was interesting to me because he tried to make her feel inferior to him. He doesn’t recognize the sacrifices she’s made for him to have a better life. As she sobbed, she told me that she didn’t appreciate the way he treated her. I couldn’t help but think that this woman has invested in herself time and time again. She sacrificed for her family and friends. Yet it never feels like it’s enough. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I know how that feels. If we don’t find ways to take care of ourselves and invest in ourselves, we fail to see our worth. We tend to let the people of those we love and their opinions dictate how we feel. My wish for you is to continue to invest in yourself. Embrace the time that you have with your loved ones. Learn your worth. Invest in the things that make you happy. Don’t worry about pleasing everyone else. Others are not living your life for you. We all have one life, and we have to choose wisely. So I hope today you’re able to keep doing things to invest in yourself and grow in the ways that you desire. Have a great day, everyone.
