Word of the day for Sunday – Truculent

I felt like being adventurous today. I plan on pushing myself with a new word every day for the next few weeks. So I started looking up words that I could challenge myself daily to not only learn but utilize. Imagine my surprise when I looked up the word for today and it was Truculent. What does it mean? For those who don’t already know, it means anger, or easily annoyed, harsh. It’s kind of like what we see around us. There is a lot of truculent behavior by those who don’t want to accept the outcome of the election. No matter what your stance on the election is, we have to move forward. Preferably together. Please keep the name-calling off your social media pages. All it does is incite more hate. I know it’s Monday but the Monday word of the day wasn’t posted so I had to make due with the information I have.

In Española, the word is translated to truculenta. I love looking up what words mean and then looking them up in a language that I’m trying to learn. Many different types of languages and translations can be done but I don’t have enough time to go over every single language.

So why am I pushing myself forward like this? Two reasons. The first is something that happened this weekend that I’m not proud of. A couple of people that I care for were called out on social media by another person on my friend list that made derogatory statements about one of the candidates. I didn’t say anything at the time, not because I didn’t want to defend my friend that was attacked but because A) I was shocked, B) I needed to cool down before I sent a message on social media. Especially because many people go after your job when you say something that is often taken out of context. One of the people confronted me and I did apologize and will try to respond sooner should that ever happen again. Instead of using profanity, I’m elevating myself and going high when others choose to remain low. In her defense, she has reasons for feeling the way she does.

These are turbulent times. There is a ton of truculent behavior that is not mellowing. We have to find ways of resolving differences without creating more anger. Otherwise, we will never have a balance. So my friends, don’t respond to anything until you can do so with a clear head. Don’t get yourselves worked up in a frenzy. The next four years are going to be a roller coaster for many groups. Acknowledge that fact and move forward. In the meantime, do things that mean something fun and less stressful. Don’t let someone bring out the truculent tendencies in you.
